"Triumph Through Trial, A Story of Renewal" by award winning Christian author Theresa Franklin is an endearing story of the Owens family who went from discord, contention and strife to a new life full of renewal and triumph. Romans 8:28 states (NIV), "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." We can rest assured that even though there are trials, tragedies and hardships in life, if we live our life according to God's plans and purposes, He will work everything out in our life for good. Get ready to sit down, relax and enjoy this beautifully written book full of hope, encouragement and faith through the story of one family that overcame life's adversities through oneness in Christ.

Author, Theresa Franklin does a wonderful job in administering to the heart of families and encouraging families to stick together in love through this fictional short story. We all know what our lives look from the outside. But when we examine our family life from the inside, more than we like to admit, one will find dysfunction in the home. When we come to a place of acknowledging our sins and confessing them to God, God can work on our behalf. The author asks these important questions and urges us all to spend, "…time in front of God's mirror and try to see what those who know you best actually see? Are you a Christian? Have you accepted Christ as your savior?" In that, the author is asking, are you walking the walk and talking the talk? So many people profess to be Christians, but as Christians we should be exhibiting love, respect and service to our families in the home as well. If not, this book will lead the way to a new path of wholeness in Christ for families.

Driven by emotions, control, negativity, judgment and perfectionism, Cynthia is in complete denial of her behavior towards her family members. Severely affected, the husband is miserable, and her children avoid her as much as possible. Inevitably when there is dysfunction in the home, the author states, the stress can be measured in emotional and physical illnesses. Although the book is a fictional story, the author has described a very real and believable picture of how life is in our own families sometimes. The Owens family is torn from the inside out, due to stresses from the contention and discord caused by one family member suffering from deep emotional wounds caused from her own dysfunctional childhood.

This book is truly a blessing to families and the body of Christ. The author, through the use of scriptures and examples of family life, paints a wonderful picture of how life can be through the love and redemption of Jesus Christ. The author promotes family in this story of healing and encourages others, that "…love covereth a multitude of sins." Families will find solace and comfort through this book. Theresa's Franklin's writing style flows smoothly making for an easy read, keeping the reader fully engaged. This book will minister to all families that are "less than perfect." A highly recommend, encouraging read that will impact others for Christ. God can work in any situation, as the author illustrates, even the impossible ones.

Calvary Chapel congregation stunned as Chuck Smith announces that he has lung cancer

COSTA MESA, CA (ANS) -- The congregation at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, California, were stunned today (Sunday, January 01, 2012) when Pastor Chuck Smith, it senior pastor, announced during his Sunday morning services that he has lung cancer and will have a biopsy on Tuesday and surgery the following week.

Chuck Smith started preaching in the 1960s Chuck Smith, now in his eighties and the father of the Jesus People Revolution in Southern California, said that he has never smoked in his life.

At at the end of the third service that was broadcast on KWVE 107.9 FM, his son-in-law, Brian Brodersen, joined with other pastors at the huge church and anointed him with oil and prayed for his healing.

Karl Corcoran, evangelism pastor at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, posted on Facebook, "Update: Pastor Chuck Smith having surgery this month for lung cancer after a series of tests this week. Estimated recovery time is 3 weeks."

In response to the posting, Kathy Buckley Keys said, "We were stunned with the news of Pastor Chuck. His ways are higher than ours and He is able to keep that which is committed to Him so we commit Pastor Chuck and all that is related to him, family, doctors and treatments to the Great Physician who knows Pastor Chuck intimately and ask for His guidance, favor, love and support through this time."

Shortly after the announcement, the KWVE Facebook page was flooded with goodwill messages for Chuck Smith.

Joni Barger wrote, "I'm praying for a miracle. I'm an avid listener to the radio program. Pastor Chuck I've learned so much from you. God is with you Sir."

Kim Krabbenhoft-Ancora posted, "Oh I am so sad...tears...we will be lift him up in prayer...but as said above, Pastor Chuck of all people will use this to bring Glory to The Lord!!!"

Adrianna Kneefel added, "We love you Pastor Chuck...the Lord uses your life daily to feed thousands of His sheep. Praying that much fruit would come out of this and that the the sickness would be removed in Jesus name... we speak words of life! Lord let your servant live and continue to bring the Word. Chuck is a bright light in a dark age... Lord let his light shine!"

Rachel Fret said, "I was floored when I heard the news this morning. Praying for Papa Chuck and his family. .. my husband had an aunt who died of lung cancer a few years ago. She never smoked in her whole life. Doctors assumed that it was due to where she was living...Redlands, Ca...air pollution. Don't know but yeah, we found out then that it's not a cancer caused by smoking."

And Cassandra Voight Estes posted, "Praying... Please Lord keep Chuck with us so that others might hear your precious word. You have blessed Chuck all these years. I know he will not waste his cancer and you will use it for you glory."

In a previous tribute to Chuck Smith, ANS correspondent, Brian Nixon, who for several years co-hosted Pastors Perspective with Chuck Smith, wrote: "Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel Movement and one of the key figureheads of the Jesus Movement, has touched the hearts and lives of countless of people in his six decades of ministry.

"Not to mention his influence upon the fabric of Christian culture: from the 2,000 plus Calvary Chapel churches spanning the globe to the praise-and-worship phenomena initiated in the 1960's. His impact looms large in the halls of modern Christian history.

"Sadly, however, Pastor Chuck had a brief setback, suffering a couple of what were described as 'mini-strokes' at his home on December 27, 2009.

"I was blessed to have worked side-by-side with Pastor Chuck for almost eight years, covering numerous fields: education, publishing, radio, and television.

"Not only was I able to glean from his words, thoughts, answers, and actions, on a weekly basis, but I was also able to watch him in a variety of situations: answering questions on a radio program we hosted together, cooperating with him on books, brainstorming and praying with him through tough educational situations. And, most special of all, to watch his interaction with other human beings.

From Sinking Sand is an extraordinary book by Author Marsha Lenski testifying to her moral failure in the form of an adulterous affair. Marsha has been featured on "Life Today" with James and Betty Robison and CBN's 700 Club with her amazing testimony. Her story is a familiar one; at the time, she had no idea the ripple effect her adulterous affair would have in her life, nor that her moral failure would ever be discovered. What makes this book so extraordinary is that the author is brazenly honest and surprisingly transparent as she takes the reader back to her time of playing with the fire of adultery. Not only did she get burned in the process, being reduced to a pile of ashes, but her husband, her children, her close friends and family, extended friends and even acquaintances all learned that no one can play with fire and not get burned. Not only was her life forever changed, but also that of everyone she knew.

This book is a wake-up call to all who might consider adultery as some light thing. But there is hope, that hope is found in a loving Savior who died for our sins. The promise of that covenant is written in blood-His own blood for eternity. It doesn't matter how deep of a pit you might be in or what your condition might be, no sin is too great and it's never to late to turn to Jesus Christ as your Savior. This book lovingly testifies to the great love, mercy and grace of God and how, when you surrender your life to the Lord how He can turn your life around for the good.

Botox Injections Used To Manage Spaticity and Tone For Patiens with MS

When you're dealing with symptoms like mine –- paralyzing spasticity, intention tremors, numbness and visual problems – spaticity or tone can become overwhelming, making movement and performing simple tasks terribly difficult if not impossable... and in some cases acutely imbarrssing. Consider the other day: I woke up at 6 a.m., taking care to adjust the firmness of my Sleep Number bed so that I would be able to sit up and slide out of bed. A soft mattress just means that as I attempt to sit up I will just fall backwards increasing the spasticity and tone in my legs rendering my legs useless. The tone and spasticity only becoming greater with each attempt to sit up, of course it's morning so I have to urinate and the more I flop around on the bed like a flounder the more urgent that need becomes. And, we all know that as the situation becomes more dire it becomes more stressful resulting in greater tone in my legs. From there, I managed to get into my motorized chair. (My power chair, grunt, grunt! Sounds masculine doesn't it? Well, hold on, because I'm about to be emasculate).

I shot into my beautifully-renovated handicapped-accessible bathroom. Utilizing a jungle gym of grab bars I managed to sit myself onto the toilet but my legs were locked tightly together in front of me, toes pointing at the ceiling, not exactly the position most conducive for a guy to empty his bladder. What to do, what to do? Not much time to consider that. We were down to the buzzer, as they say. I grabbed a towel and threw it on my lap. Ahhh... Sometimes a guy just has to do what he has to do. Spasticity sucks! Time for a shower.

Is there any relief beyond the frequently prescribed drugs life Baclofen and Zannaflex? Yes, there is... it's called Botox. Botox the same stuff injected by many to reduce wrinkles in one's face,, by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles has been used successfully to reduce and in many cases eliminate spatisity and tone. I have been getting Botox injections in my thighs, calves and ankles every two or three months for the past year and I feel like a new man. Stressful situations still bring on the tone, but for the most part the tone is gone. My knees bend easily for simple entry and exhibiting to and from the passenger seat of the car. When I am sitting in my wheelchair my knees are bent and my feet are on the floor. Don't just take my word for it... read my friend Ami's testimony below...

Ami says, "O"Okay the botox shots have helped a ton! I don't feel my legs any weaker than before, but the spasticity has gone down a lot! I can bend my legs without having to pry them to bend, can straighten them and they'll relax and start bending in, my feet go flat,and my legs open a little! (hard to self cath when your legs are locked closed!) and I can sleep once again in my normal position! Although I end up back on my side. Should have had this done a LONG time ago!!"I have to agree with Ami... Why did I go years, before giving the Botox injections a shot? Pun intended, smile.

Being a lay minister and a man who has studied the Word for many years, the author, Edward F. Then by clearly stating first God's view and comparing it with Society's view, the author lays bare the truth about adultery and the devastating consequences of adultery, not only to the person who commits the sin, but to others we love in our life who are the innocent victims of this pervasive ripple effect sin that is so prevalent in our society.

Most do no realize the far-reaching consequences of the sin of adultery in their lives, nor the cost and the author makes no mistake that there is no such thing as 'an innocent affair'. This book is an eye opener for most and highly recommended for anyone either contemplating an adulterous affair or for those who may have been entangled in an adulterous affair. The author shows the way out with some of most practical teachings culminated from the infallible Word of God to bring others out of their sin and into the light of the Lord.

Openly, but lovingly, the author shares the unavoidable, yet dire consequences of adultery and reveals that not only does it affect our lives spiritually and physically, but the sin has a ripple effect that goes on to "… virtually every innocent person in our lives" (p.11). The consequences are so monumental, that no one in their right mind "armed" with the truth of God's Word would commit adultery, but sadly, the author concedes from a recent survey, "…that over 88 percent of Americans believe adultery is wrong. Yet 77 percent of marriages involve at least one adultery." This alarming fact in our society today is bringing many to the wide-path of destruction. Quite simply put, it is choosing death over life.

Edward Mrkvicka's true desire is two-fold, first for all those that may be contemplating adultery to know the absolute truth of God's Word and the dire consequences and for those that are in an adulterous affair or have been in the past that they would also realize the devastating consequences and that the truth would bring true repentance in their life. Lastly, Mrkvicka's desire is that all would receive eternal life in Jesus Christ. Again, the author does not give his opinion, but God's view and His Holy Word. This book offers no excuses, nor apologies, but gives the truth of the Word of God. This book is truly a blessing to the body of Christ and to all who read it.

This subject is not an easy subject to be discussed, nor is it very popular, but with so many on the path to destruction in our society it is a must read for anyone entangled in or contemplating adultery. This fascinating and well-written book exposes the truth and deception in the sin of adultery and brings forth light to the subject. Thankfully, the author ends that there is hope and states, "God can save us" (p.11). For there is one hope, and that one hope is the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. Every church that I have ever attended had a prayer ministry. Prayer is one of the heart beats of the church. Prayer is important, and Jesus said "My House shall be called a house of prayer". There are many scriptures in the Bible that speak of prayer from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelations. There are many accounts of Christ praying, the Apostles praying, and also many accounts within the old testament about prayer.

Prayer in many ways is the lifeline of our communication with God. Through prayer we communicate with God, make our requests known to Him, enter into His presence and stand the gap as watchmen for others. It is good to pray for others. In fact, it is a humble privilege to pray for others.

In the book of Acts prayer and the laying on of hands are mentioned in various sections of scripture. In many church's today prayer and the laying on of hands is actively pursued and the ministry of the Holy Spirit flows freely.

Actually God made prayer very simple. It doesn't take some spiritual giant to pray for people. It just takes a willing vessel to step out in faith and allow the Holy Spirit to be the Holy Spirit. It's when fear, lack of faith, a religious spirit, the precepts of men and having a good church service show gets in the way and hinders the Holy Spirit, that prayer ministries become in affective. That well scripted situations.

It amazes me how we sometimes turn the Kingdom of God into this well micro managed process as if we could add something to it. It amazes me how we sometimes take the simplest of things and make them difficult and within that process diminish the power of such and the anointing of God among us. I somehow don't think Jesus had that in mind.

We have all seen the flooding situations around the world. Not just here in the United States, but also in other countries from hurricanes, monsoons, heavy rains, storms and rising flood waters. I feel that we are going to see a dramatic increase in these situations and especially flooding.

Within this, farmlands will be affected and food supplies, especially overseas. Some countries are already experiencing food shortages and just recently flooding took out more farmlands in the Philippines alone. Mother nature when unleashed can do major damage. Sometimes I do not think we even realize the fine line that many things fall on with regards to mother nature, hurricanes, earthquakes, storms and flooding. Just imagine if things were pumped up a few notches. Just imagine if that next earthquake was a 9.0 instead of a 7.1. Just imagine a 9.0 earthquake hitting just a few miles outside of New York and creating a Tsunami that hit New York.

OK, I went and did it. I ate way too much dinner and am reminded of why I don't like to eat too much. Considering I skipped breakfast (dumb), didn't eat lunch (even dumber) maybe that's why I put three plates away at dinner. Ouch! Way too much food. I am reminded of the many posts I have written about balance, living a healthy life and taking time. Hypocrite, as it seems that my flesh just got the best of me. OK, I will repent, right after a bowl of ice cream.

It is written that the spirit and the flesh war one against the other. Right now there's a war going on in my stomach which is the consequences of missing two meals while trying to make up for them all in one. As our pastor would say: "We are all just dumb sheep". Bahhhh !!!!

“Hope may be as invisible as the air, but it is about as necessary to life.”

I want to tell you a wonderful story that may very well bring a great word of hope. This is because the story is both great, and actually true.

I call it: The Story of the Tuna and the Sardines.

In the summer of 1905, on the shores of central California, the fishing town of Monterey, suffered a very great economic blow.

Monterey is a picturesque community, 100 miles south of San Francisco. It is situated on the great Monterey Bay.

The Monterey Bay gave to the city of Monterey all the bounty of the ocean. For decades Monterey fishermen brought back the fruit of the sea, the fish, that fed millions of people in America.

The backbone of this great fishery, and therefore of the economy in Monterey, was the annual catch of sardines.

These sardines were captured, brought to port, and then to Cannery Row – a row of fish canning operations lining the Monterey beach. There, of course, the sardines were packed into silver cans, and wrapped in a red and black paper seal declaring them to be high-quality sardines from Monterey, California. They were then shipped throughout America and the world.

And the economy was good.

But, in the summer of 1905, something terrible happened. An economic disaster of unprecedented proportions happened to this bustling fishing town.

The disaster was this: the fishermen and their many boats, and many employees, simply over fished the sardine population. They did it to such a degree, that the sardines couldn’t reproduce their stock – and, suddenly, sardines simply disappeared from the fisherman’s nets! They were gone! And with them, were gone also, apparent to everyone, the good times for people in Monterey.

But – and this is a very important but – this was not the end of the story. A very great and ominous disaster had happened on their watch. But now something wondrous and hopeful, also took place on their watch.

Here is what, actually, happened: first, the people of Monterey and their churches, prayed. Now, whether you believe in prayer or not, that is secondary to the story. My duty is just to give hope and tell you how the story turned out, in actual history.

Most of the ship owners in Monterey doubled as their own ship captains. There were no big corporate fleets. It was mostly private fishermen who had built their fishing business to the level of having a ship or two, and going out daily and bringing the fish back. They worked hard at it, and they became better and better at what they did, and therefore became more and more successful.

But the sea had always helped them. Now that the sardines were gone, what next? What would happen to the economy, to the ship owners and captains, and to all the crews and their families?

The captains of the ships talked among themselves. As they talked, they told tales that they had heard long ago, about schools of great fish, that a Monterey fisherman and his ship and crew had once found.

But, these great fish, which were only known by the thin thread of perhaps a tall tale, were caught as far out as 200 miles from the shore! No Monterey fisherman and his crew, at least for decades, had gone beyond 20 miles!

No one ever dared to go that far! It had not yet entered the imagination of the people.

They had the vessels for it, and the crews. Now what they needed were some bold and intrepid captains, who would dare to go farther into deeper waters, than anyone ever had before.

And, in a true to life story, several believing captains, with their valiant ships and willing crews, set out to find out if the tales of these great fish had any truth to them.

They went fifty miles. Then eighty miles. Then over a hundred miles. But approximately one hundred and fifty miles out, they saw “boiling water” – a strange occurrence on the surface of the water that far out in the middle of the sea.

The captains and their crews, decided to fish these “boiling waters.” For their efforts, they began to pull in yellowfin tuna anywhere from 100 to 300 pounds! And there was no end to them!

Now, dear reader, understand that until this date in history, no one in the entire world had ever eaten tuna. Well, maybe some long ago sea captain and his crew had. But for the most part, tuna had never been known before. It had never been seen or eaten!

So, the intrepid sea captains and their fishermen returned home to Monterey with great good news – and a big load of great fish!

Think about it: Sardines were only 4 to 8 inches long, and now the fishermen replaced them with tuna that were 4-8 feet long! The sardines weighed a half-pound at best, and the tuna weighed up to three hundred pounds. In fact, later, as fishermen found the will to go farther, they caught bluefin tuna, that weighed up to 1500 pounds!

Thus, by being willing to go further than anyone had gone before ,and by choosing to act in new ways rather than just sit and suffer, although the economy went down with the sardines – now it went up with the tuna! Following what might have been just a tall story by an old salt, turned out to give the people of Monterey a true, and much greater, story. They introduced tuna and tuna fishing to the world. Their ships got bigger. Their crews got paid more. More tourists came to Monterey. The little bustling fishing didn’t go down with the sardines!

Somehow, the town, its people, and its economy all got a new lease on life. They grew. They prospered. And – they fed the whole world to a far greater degree.

In that summer day of 1905, when the sardine stock fell and the bottom dropped out of the sardine business, it shook everybody up. But, they said their prayers, decided to go further than ever before, chose to “seek a greater story” – and, however combined elements made it happen – tuna, much larger than sardines, and a tuna catch, much greater than the total sardine catch had ever achieved, was brought into the history, and to the palates, of the entire world.

The economy recovered and boomed.

My friends, could it be possible that right now, this very day, that even as you experience the loss of something you long felt secure and that you built your hopes on, just a little farther ahead, with a little willingness to keep your chin and morale up, exploring a little further, pursuing a greater, not lesser, story for you and yours, we might ourselves see our “sardines” not just gone, but our own kind of new, far greater, “tuna” right in front of us replacing our loss with something better?

I believe that people with the American dream, don’t just get better dreams. They get a better story. It comes complete with the faith, the new vision, the will to try, the solid meat of the fish, the adventures, and the tale to tell all our children about.

The measure of something great is that greater things still come out of it.

Say your prayers, stoke the embers of your dreams and visions. Listen to wise stories. Make your minds and ships go further into the ocean of the Spirit – and I believe either you yourself, or some intrepid captains, are going to come back with the equivalent of boatloads of silver tuna in our time – together with directions as to how you can get a lot more of them.
